What is SEO and Why You Should Care

It is a common question when I begin to move towards the geekier side of my life.

The question often comes up when I begin talking about my WordPress website, my blog and the fact that I do all the work myself. I usually express that it is hard enough writing a blog, booking and researching guests for Lead or Be Led, the web-based TV show for leaders. Then I will add, “And then there is SEO!”

“What is SEO?” is the question that will be asked by many people. I forget that I am steeped deeply in SEO or Search Engine Optimization.  The odd thing is, even if you do not know it, so are you.

It is an SEO World

When you search a key word or phrase on a search engine like Google, Yahoo or Bing you get a set of results in return. Those results come from content that is related back to your search.

When a website’s content is search optimized, the words and phrases you place in a search engine put the content from that website higher up on the list of results. The website that works the hardest ends up in the top spot.

Confused? Our guest answers the question, “What is SEO?” and then some.
